Full Throttle Ahead: The Impossible Airplane Project Resumes

After a year of uncertainty, I’m excited to announce that the Impossible Airplane project is back on track! For those of you following along, this journey to build the world’s first custom RV-10 aircraft—one designed to inspire and empower people with disabilities—has been filled with highs and a few challenges. But today, we are moving forward again with great momentum.

As many of you know, the project was temporarily on hold due to Van’s Aircraft, our supplier for the airplane’s build kits, going through a difficult bankruptcy process. Van’s has been an essential part of the general aviation community for years, and we’re glad to see them working through this challenging time. Their resilience mirrors the very spirit of perseverance that the Impossible Airplane embodies.

The good news is that we’ve secured a key component needed to continue the build. We had been waiting on the fuselage kit when everything paused, and we’ve since obtained one that another builder decided not to use. This fuselage contains the laser-cut parts that have been a topic of discussion in the RV builder community. We understand that some builders have expressed concerns regarding the quality of these parts, and Van’s has been working closely with the community to address these issues.

I want to be transparent with our supporters: we trust in Van’s commitment to quality and safety. Our engineering team has reviewed the fuselage, and while we will post a detailed update on their findings and Van’s remediation efforts in a future blog, we feel confident moving forward. The fuselage is now on its way to our build site in New Jersey, and we are excited to continue with the next phase of this incredible project.

Gratitude to Our Supporters

We couldn’t be where we are today without the amazing support of our sponsors and community. The past year required patience and trust, and we’re deeply grateful to everyone who has stood by us. Your unwavering belief in our mission is what keeps us moving forward.

I’d like to give a special thank you to some of the sponsors who have been integral to making the Impossible Airplane a reality:

Lycoming: We’re excited to announce that our engine will ship next year. Lycoming has been a steadfast partner, and we’re thrilled to be working with them to power this aircraft.

AFS and Dynon: They are working hard on the design for the advanced instrument panel that will guide the Impossible Airplane on its every journey.

AeroLEDs: AeroLEDs will be providing their new RV AeroSun VSi Wingtip lights, ensuring that our airplane will shine brightly in the sky.

These incredible partners are just the beginning, and we’ll be highlighting more sponsors in future updates. Their support, and yours, is what makes this ambitious project possible.

What’s Next?

We’re working toward a completed airplane by the end of 2025, with plans to showcase the Impossible Airplane at AirVenture 2026. This will be a major milestone not only for our team but for the entire aviation community and for people with disabilities around the world.

Before that, we invite you to join us on December 17, the anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first flight, for a special virtual event where we’ll share the latest updates and give you an inside look at the progress we’re making. Be sure to follow Rightfooted Foundation and Jessica Cox’s social media accounts for more details as the event approaches.

How You Can Help

While we are back in full swing, there’s still much work to be done. We’re actively looking for new financial sponsors—especially companies who share our passion for changing lives and opening new horizons for children without arms and other disabilities. If your company is interested in partnering with us, I’d love to connect with you to explore how we can work together.

We invite individual donors to join us in making the Impossible Airplane a reality by supporting the project through a one-time or monthly contribution. Every donation, no matter the size, directly fuels our mission to inspire and empower individuals with disabilities, helping us take the next steps toward completing this groundbreaking aircraft. To contribute, simply click the “Donate” button on this webpage and choose the option that works best for you. Your generosity keeps us flying forward—thank you for being part of this incredible journey!

Moving Forward

The Impossible Airplane is much more than just a plane—it’s a powerful symbol of what can be achieved when we push past the limits that society and circumstances place on us. Jessica Cox, who will pilot this plane using only her feet, embodies that message. Together, with your help, we’re building something that will inspire and uplift countless individuals, especially young people with disabilities, showing them that their dreams truly are within reach.

Thank you once again to our sponsors, supporters, and everyone who has been part of this journey. We have an exciting road ahead, and I can’t wait to share more updates with you soon.

Stay tuned for more information, and don’t forget to join us on December 17 as we celebrate the next chapter in the Impossible Airplane’s journey.

Blue skies ahead!
